Dane’s Yard Kitchen

Dane's Yard Stratford

Dane’s Yard Kitchen has been on the list for awhile now, and I finally got a chance to experience it a few weeks ago. It’s tucked in away from the busy streets in Stratford. Not that you can miss it though. Passing by, the bright (almost neon outside wall), with their imprinted logo, looks almost like a piece of art. You definitely won’t miss it!

Crispy Cornish squid, herb and lemon aioli

For the starter, I ordered the Crispy Cornish squid with herb and lemon aioli. I like squid as much as the next person, but this was made to perfection, the batter was nice and crispy, but not overdone and the squid was full of flavor and tasted so fresh.

28 days aged Hereford Rib eye steak, Portobello mushroom, watercress salad, chips and béarnaise sauce

I am partial to a bit of steak, so for the mains, I ordered the 28 days aged Hereford Rib eye steak, topped with Portobello mushroom, some watercress salad and chips. I asked for it to be done ‘medium rare’, which some places can mess up, but it was cooked to perfection, nice and pink on the inside just the way I like it! Even the chips were amazing too!

Dulce de Lecce cheesecake, pistachio crumbs

With the starter and steak just about in my belly, I ordered a dessert quickly before my brain registered how full I was. I liked the sound of the Dulce de Lecce cheese cake with pistachio crumbs. Now, I do like cheesecake and it was fine, but it wasn’t amazing for the price to be honest.

By the way, on arrival, our waitress suggested the Asahi Japanese beer and it was lovely. Definitely recommended.

So there you have it. East London might not have as many quality places to eat out as other places in London but Dane’s Yard is a place you have to try. Modern, good atmosphere, good food, friendly staff and they know what they’re doing.
